WAYNE HARMES APPOINTED SENIOR COACH

Lower Plenty Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Wayne Harmes as our Senior Coach.

Wayne comes with a wealth of experience and football knowledge firstly from his playing days in the AFL/VFL as aCarlton champion.  A  triple Premiership player, Norm Smith Medallist and an inductee to the Carlton Hall of Fame in 2000 followed by an 18 year coaching career, most recently in the NFL, also coaching the Division 2 Representative team in 2008. We believeWayne is an exceptional appointment.  Wayne will be ably assisted by Brenton Kinnear who has previously worked with Wayne and is looking forward to reestablishing their partnership at Lower Plenty FC.

Our Football Operations Manager Tony Newlands also confirmed the appointment of the  Reserves Coach Gary Kallinikos, a long time coach in the NFL, and as his Playing Assistant, Luke Groves a current Lower Plenty Player.

We are also thrilled to announce our U/19’s Coach Mario Bandera, a current Player with the LPFC.  Mario has been a long established player in the NFL/DVFL, a former winner of the Division 1 Best & Fairest award. We are confident Mario with the assistance of Peter Shaw (2008 Under 17's Coach at our Junior affiliated club, Research), will provide the club with a fantastic platform for the development of our young list.

Our President Kel Donaldson was ecstatic with the quality of candidate that has been sourced for our coaching roles going on to say that “the appointment of Wayne Harmes is one of the most exciting things to have happened at the club for a number of years” and really has our Players, Officials and Members looking forward to the 2009 season with a renewed passion and enthusiasm, GO BEARS. !!

STOP PRESS - MAN O MAN 2008
Last Saturday night saw over 200 people, mostly some very enthusiastic females, gather at the Bear Cave and enjoy the Man o Man experience.

Our participants did not disappoint. This year that included:-

 - Jed (the Pilot) Perry,
 - Billy (the Policeman) Barden,
 - Dylan (the King) Flannery,
 - Joel (the Student) Sardi, and
 - Sean (Rambo) Downey,

Alll put in strong performances, however our eventual winner proved very popular among the female voters, and our
2008 Man o Man was first time entrant Max (the Sailor) Leropoulos.

This was evidenced by the great number of people who came along to spend the afternoon with Terry.

Special thanks to Jim Heywood who spoke to the Senior team before the game and gave an insight to the current players about the man and what he means to the Lower Plenty FC.

Patto tosses the Coin before the match

It was great to have Patto in the rooms to sing the song and share the victory, and in the words of the great man himself, "It beats the s#*t out of losing."
